Her absence has created an irreplaceable void that will be felt by everyone who had the privilege of knowing and loving her.
Lil Tay last posted to Instagram in June 2018.
When Lil Tay was just 9 years old, she became super famous on social media. She liked to show off and say she was the coolest kid ever. She made videos on Instagram where she talked in a not-so-nice way and pretended to have a fancy life like in hip-hop music. In one video, she talked about buying a really expensive sports car even though she couldn’t drive yet.

In another video, she stood on a high place in Beverly Hills and said she was in charge of the city. Lil Tay hung out with famous rappers like Chief Keef and XXXTentacion, who she thought of as a kind of dad. But some people got mad at her for using a bad word, and she said sorry later. In 2018, she was in a short TV show about her life called “Life With Lil Tay.”
After vanishing from the internet five years back, Lil Tay found herself caught in a custody struggle between her parents. During this time, concerning accusations about her family’s situation and her safety began to surface online. Then, in June 2018, Lil Tay’s Instagram profile underwent a complete reset, and a distressing message saying “help me” was shared on her story.
A few months later, an apparent Instagram breach brought to light a series of disturbing claims against her father, Christopher Hope. These allegations were posted on Lil Tay’s Instagram and asserted that Hope had legally compelled Lil Tay to return to Canada to capitalize on her earnings. Disputing these allegations, Lil Tay’s manager at that time, Harry Tsang, stated in a 2018 interview with The Daily Beast that the accusations were unfounded and made up.
I talked to The Daily Beast on the phone with my mom, Angela Tian. Lil Tay, that’s me, said, “Things aren’t good for me now, and I don’t really want to talk about it.” My dad did something legal, and the court told us to come back here. He’s worried about me being in danger and stuff.
She said of Hope: “He was threatening to arrest — to have my mom arrested if we didn’t go back… I didn’t see him for multiple years. He never saw me for so long, it’s obvious he just came back because he wants money.”
